Govt killed democracy thru’ Jan 5 polls, says Noman

BNP vice chairman Abdullah Al Noman on Monday called for changing the government accusing it of killing democracy through the January 5 parliamentary elections.
“We want downfall of this autocratic government. It has killed democracy,” he told a discussion –The January 5: Killed Democracy and Jeopardised Independence– at the Jatiya Press Club.Speaking as the chief guest, he claimed that this government is not legitimate. People rejected the government in the January 5 polls as 95 percent of the people did not go to the polling stations, he said.
“The government with a mandate of only five percent voters is not the government of people,” he added.
Noman said the government is spreading false propaganda that voters were obstructed in what he said farcical election. But the voters were not hindered by us. “People boycotted the polls spontaneously,” he said.
The BNP leader said this parliament is not of people as the members of this parliament were not elected with the votes of people.
The parliament which is not formed with the votes of people cannot be legitimated, he claimed.
Jatiya Gantantric Party (Jagpa) president Shafiul Alam Pradhan and its general secretary Sikder Rafiqul Islam, also spoke at the discussion with Jubo Jagpa President Insan Alam Akkash in the chair.
