Govt killing people to hide failures: Khaleda

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Thursday alleged that the government has been on a killing spree as it has gone mad to cover up its misdeeds and corruption.“This government has gone mad. Failure after failure has brought the government to its knees. They’re now killing people having failed to put its failures out of sight,” she said.
Khaleda came up with the allegation while addressing a roadside rally at Kalaroa Pilot School in Kalaroa upazila.
The BNP chief reached the upazila from Jessore at noon and consoled the family members of those killed in the recent violence between February 28 and March 3. She also provided them with financial assistance.
Earlier, Khaleda went to Jessore on Wednesday night and stayed overnight at Jessore Circuit House.
Mentioning that people are not safe in the hands of this regime even inside their houses, Khaleda said this ‘killer and looter government’ will have to face trial for carrying out ‘mass killing’.
She also criticised Home Minister Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir for his remarks that the BNP chief and other 18-party top leaders will be made accused for instigating violence, saying she is not at all afraid of such threats.
“Possibly, I’m their main target. I may be caught. I want to clearly say I don’t fear of such matters. I had struggled for restoring democracy in the country and ousted the autocratic regime. I did massive development for the country. I don’t care such threat,” the former premier said.
Charging the Home Minister with working in the interest of Pakistan as a government employee during the Liberation War, the BNP chief said, “According to then journalist Sirajur Rahman and Bangabir Kader Siddiqui, this Home Minister was a razakar.”
Khaleda also demanded the trial of the Home Minister for ‘war crimes’. “I want to tell the government that if you want to hold the trial of real war criminals prove your neutrality by trying the present Home Minister first.”
Alleging that there are many war criminals in the ruling Awami League, she renewed her demand that transparency and impartiality be maintained in the trial.
Later, Khaleda addressed a condolence rally at Satkhira Government Girls High School ground in the district town.
She is scheduled to return to the capital on Thursday night.
Scores of people were killed in the recent violence erupted following the February 28 judgment of the International Crimes Tribunal-1 against Jamaat-e-Islami nayeb-e-ameer Delwar Hossain Sayedee awarding him death penalty for his crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.
Earlier, the former premier visited the violence-hit Munshiganj, Manikganj, Bogra and Joypurhat and provided financial assistance to the families of those killed in the violence. (Source: UNB)
