Govt launched a war against people: BNP

BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Friday alleged that the government has initiated a war against the country’s people through resorting to wholesale arrest and crossfire. “The ruling party is gradually making the state machinery a repressive demon to gag the voice of united democratic forces and resist their agitations to realise their democratic rights,” he said. The BNP leader came up with the allegation at a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office. Dhaka, UNB News Agency Reported.

He said the government is using the state machinery as a repressive tool also to force people not to raise their voice against its move to ‘lease out’ the country to another country only to secure its power. Rizvi alleged that the government is conspiring to annihilate the political forces and individuals who are brave and unwilling to compromise when it comes to democracy and the country’s independence and sovereignty.

Accusing the government of adopting a knee-jerk policy to protect the country’s interests, he said, “India is our friendly country, but if a one-eyed policy regarding ‘give and take’ is maintained by one side, it won’t ensure the principles of friendship.”

The BNP leader said their party wants friendly relations with India based on equality and mutual respect. “The national interest can’t be protected, if a lopsided and suicidal friendship is maintained as Awami League does.”

Rizvi questioned as to how Awami League MP from Tangail-3 Amanur Rahman Khan Rana signed the attendance sheet in parliament despite being a fugitive accused in a murder case. He alleged that a chaotic and dangerous anarchic situation has been prevailing everywhere in the country as the government has lost its balance by indulging in misdeeds and injustice.
