Govt not so cruel Khaleda has to die sans treatment: Quader

Dhaka, May 24 – Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader has said the Sheikh Hasina government is humanitarian enough over the issue of treatment of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in jail.
In response to a query over Khaleda’s treatment, Quader said: “As far as I know, the Sheikh Hasina administration is not so cruel that Khaleda Zia will have to die without treatment.”
Quader, also the Road Transport and Bridges minister was addressing at a press conference after holding a meeting with the AL departmental secretaries at the party president Sheikh Hasina’s political office in the city.
Earlier, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir accused the government of not providing proper treatment to their party chief Khaleda Zia who is now undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
However, BNP has been demanding the government for long to shift Khaleda Zia to a specialised hospital for her better treatment.
Referring to the upcoming new government of India, the AL general secretary said his optimism that the unresolved issues between Bangladesh and India would be settled during the upcoming tenure of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“During Modi’s last tenure, we were able to resolve many issues between the two countries. We hope that he would continue to work towards solving the unsettled matters including the Teesta water sharing issue,” he said.
He said Modi contributed to the settlement of long-standing border disputes. His government had resolved the Sitmahol (corridor) problem and in the upcoming tenure, Modi would be interested in solving the other problems existing between the two countries, he added.
Awami League Joint General Secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Abdur Rahman, AFM Bahauddin Nasim, AKM Enamul Haque Shamim, Ahmed Hossain, BM Mozammel Haque, Adv. S M Rezaul Karim, Abdus Sattar, Eng. Md. Abdus Sabur, Sujit Roy Nondi, Shamsunnahar Chapa, Faridunnahar Laily, Delwar Hossain, Barrister Biplob Borua and Marufa Akhter Popi were present at the event, among others.
Quader said, the AL secretariat meeting was held to discuss the issue of a national conference in October and an organizational tour of the party. Besides, the meeting discussed national and organizational activities, `Mujib Borsho’ and other issues. – Staff Reporter
