Dhaka, May 9 – BNP on Wednesday alleged that the government together with the Election Commission is making a blueprint to get the Khulna City Corporation (KCC) polls too stayed by the court. Talking to reporters after a meeting of the party’s standing committee members at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office, party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also demanded the withdrawal of the Khulna range deputy inspector general of police and the Khulna Metropolitan Police commissioner for holding a fair election.
“People of Khulna are in serious doubt whether the city polls will be fair as the government has started influencing the polls. They’re making a blueprint to get the election stayed in a planned way,” he said.
Fakhrul said the Election Commission is neither competent nor neutral to hold the election in a credible manner.
He alleged that the government is obstructing their party candidates’ electioneering by arresting BNP leaders and activists.
Under the circumstances, he said, it will be difficult to hold a fair election if the Khulna’s DIG and police commissioner are not withdrawn immediately.
The BNP leader hoped that their party mayoral candidate will win with a big margin if a fair election is held in Khulna. – UNB
