Dhaka, July 14 – The present government is determined to award second-class citizenship to children of war criminals, said Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque.
Speaking at a rally of freedom fighters at Mohanagar Natya Mancha in the city, he said measures should also be taken so that children of war criminals do not get government jobs.
“The government is committed to taking whatever action is needed so that Jamaat-Shibir and children of rajakars are not getting government jobs and their children live here as second-class citizens,” he said.
The Minister further said 30 per cent quota in government for freedom fighters should be kept enforce through the prime minister.
He said confiscation of the wealth of war criminals would not be enough but the government would take whatever measures are necessary so that their children are not getting government jobs.
The Minister said the government has taken plans to protect the memories of the freedom fighters forever.
In this regard, he mentioned that the government has constructed freedom fighters complex at divisional, district and upazila levels. He said the government would introduce a system to provide freedom fighters allowances through mobile and digital certificates among them.
Minister for Shipping Shajahan Khan, who presided over the rally, put forward 6-point demands on behalf of the freedom fighters.
The demands include taking measures so that Jamaat-Shibir, war criminals and their children are not got government jobs, suspending anti-liberation forces that are carrying out anti-liberation war activities staying inside the government and confiscation of movable and immovable wealth of war criminals and holding trials of those undermined the honour of the freedom fighters, war of liberation and martyrs.
Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader addressed the rally as chief guest while Minister for Information Hasanul Haq Inu, Cap (Retd) Tajul Islam, Shirin Akhter, among others, also spoke at the rally. – Staff Reporter
