Govt to sign TICFA: GM Quader

Commerce Minister GM Quader on Sunday said the government has decided to sign the Trade and Investment Cooperation Framework Agreement (TICFA) with the United States.“Signing the TICFA will help Bangladesh retain the Generalised System of Preference (GSP) facilities in the US market,” he told reporters at the Secretariat after a meeting on ‘Social Compliance for readymade garment’.
Asked about the necessity of TICFA, GM Quader said that with the signing of TICFA, a legal platform will be available to discus retaining the GSP and other trade facilities in the US market.
‘The US is the largest export destination for Bangladesh. Though we enjoy the GSP facility in the US market only for five percent of our total export, we’ll try to keep the facility. If the GSP facility is cancelled in the US, it will have worse impact in EU market and other countries,” he said.
Commerce Secretary Mahbub Ahmad and leaders of the RMG Forum were present at the meeting. UNB
