Dhaka – Alongside Google and Facebook, the government has also started working with Microsoft for ensuring cyber security in the country and preventing child pornography.
State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim came up with the disclosure in Parliament on Sunday.
Google has already promised to block the video that violates the policy following a government request, she said replying to an un-starred question from Awami League MP Fazilatunnesa Bappy (Women seat-30).
The junior minister said the government has taken various initiatives to prevent spreading propaganda, defamatory, dirty, abusive, harmful and anti-state speeches and contents through the internet.
She said purchasing an internet safety platform is under process for strengthening the cyber monitoring system.
As per the instruction of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), harmful websites or pages are blocked through the deep packet inspection (DPI), which were set up in the international internet gateways (IIG), she said.
Tarana said initiatives have been taken for solving complaints related to different social networking sites, including Facebook, Google and Microsoft.
The Facebook authorities have already appointed Bengali translator. Besides, Facebook promised to reply to any complaint within 48 hours, he said.
The Facebook authorities for the first time responded to 21 out of 58 requests lodged by the government.
The popular social networking site provided some data regarding 16.67 per cent of requests made by the government between July and December 2015. It also blocked four contents as per the government’s request in time.
