Graft cases against Khaleda deferred again

A Dhaka court deferred again on Sunday the hearing on charge framing against BNP Chief Khaleda Zia and others in the Zia Charitable Trust and Zia Orphanage Trust graft cases.

Earlier, Judge Md Motahar Hossain of the Special Judge Court-3 granted the time petitions of the defence and fixed December 8 to hear on charge framing in the two graft cases.

The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case Khaleda Zia, her son Tareque Rahmanand four others on July 3, 2009 on charge of embezzling over Tk 2.10 crore by forming the alleged fake trust.

The four other accused are former BNP lawmaker Kazi Salimul Haque, businessman Sharfuddin Ahmed, former principal secretary Dr Kamal Uddin Siddiqui and Memenur Rahman, nephew of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman.

On the other hand, the ACC on August 8, 2011 filed the Zia Charitable Trust graft case with Tejgaon Police Station against Khaleda Zia and three others for abusing power in setting up the charity trust named after late President ZiaurRahman.

The three other accused are Harris Chowdhury, Khaleda’s former political secretary, Ziaul Islam Munna, assistant private secretary (APS) of Harris and Monirul Islam Khan, APS of former Dhaka City Corporation mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka.

Of them, Harris is the run while the other two appeared to the court. – Court Correspondent
