The muazzin of a local Shia mosque was killed and three devotees were injured as gunmen stormed into the mosque at Haripur village in Shibganj upazila on Thursday evening and opened fire on them.The deceased was identified as Moazzem Hossain, 70. The injured are Shahinul Islam, 35, Aftab Ali, 45, and Abu Taher, 35.
Police super of Bogra Asaduzzaman said a group of 4-5 miscreants entered the mosque and opened fire on the devotees while they were offering their maghrib prayers, leaving four of them injured.
The injured were taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where doctors declared Moazzem dead.
The Shia community mosque is run under the supervision of Bogra chapter of Bangladesh Inamia Janakalyan Foundation.
