The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka Tuesday granted a two-day remand of BNP Standing Committee member retired Brigadier General ASM Hannan Shah and Senior Vice-Chairman Sadeque Hossain Khoka rejecting their bail pleas in a case filed about the murder of SI Shahjahan.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mostafizur Rahman passed the order after police sought remand for the two BNP leaders Tuesday morning.The court also directed the police to interrogate Hannan Shah at the jail gate in two other cases. Earlier police produced Hannan Shah to the court seeking 27 days’ remand and he was shown arrested in these three separate cases.
BNP vice-chairman and convener of Dhaka City Sadeque Hossain Khoka was taken to the court showing him arrested in a case filed with Matijheel Police Station which sought a 7-day remand to quiz him.
Pro-BNP lawyers including Sanaullah Mia and Masud Ahmed moved bail petitions seeking bail of two BNP leaders, the court rejected their bail pleas after hearing.
On December 18, two courts of Dhaka rejected 20 days’ remand prayers of police for interrogating Khoka in two other cases filed with Sutrapur and Paltan Police Stations. The court had asked law enforcers to interrogate the BNP leader at the jail gate within 10 days, if necessary.
Plainclothes police arrested BNP leader Hannan Shah from the city’s Baridhara area on November 25.
Later, law enforcers detained Sadeque Hossain Khoka from the city’s Uttara area on December 4. A court placed him on a two-day remand in a case filed Shahbagh Police Station.
It is being alleged that Hefajat activists attacked law enforcers at Motijheel hub in the capital during their May 5 rally. Police Sub-Inspector Shahjahan was also killed by some miscreants in the incident.
In this connection, 16 cases were filed with Paltan and Motijheel Police Stations. –
