HC bans transfer of wealth of Rana, RMG owners

The High Court (HC) on Tuesday imposed a ban on the transfer of all moveable and immovable property of Sohel Rana, owner of the crashed Rana Plaza, and the four owners of five garment factories housed in it.The four garment factory owners are Aminul Islam of Phantom Apparels Ltd and Phantom Tex Ltd, Anisur Rahman of Ether Tex Ltd, Bazlus Samad of New Wave Bottoms Ltd and Mahmudur Rahman Tapos of New Wave Style Ltd.
Passing a series of orders, an HC bench of Mirza Hussain Haider and Justice Mohammad Khurshid Alam asked the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Superintendent of Police (SP) and Registrar (Land) of Dhaka to implement the orders and submit a report on compliance within 30 days.
Besides, the HC also asked the Inspector of General Registration (IGR) to send a letter to all sub-registrar offices across the country so that the five people cannot registrar, sell or transfer their assets and submit a follow-up report in a week.
Earlier, the HC division bench issued a suo moto rule on April 24 to produce Sohel Rana and the four garment factory owners before it on Tuesday after the collapse of the building. All the accused were produced before the court accordingly.
The HC further ordered freezing their all bank accounts and submitting the statements of their accounts before the court.
The court also directed to form a committee, headed by 9 Infantry division GOC, with the DC of Dhaka, a DMP representative, a BGMEA representative, five representatives from five garment factories, a representative of BUET and reputed experts of medical and economic sectors to make a list of the affected workers and assess the compensation money to be given for them and submit report within 30 days.
The court also directed the Chief Inspector of Factories of the Ministry for Labour to prepare a list of vulnerable buildings across the country being used as garment factories, and close those immediately if found the absence of congenial working environment there. UNB
