HC dismisses Sohel Rana’s bail pleas

Dhaka – The High Court on Sunday dismissed the bail pleas of Rana Plaza owner Sohel Rana in a case filed by Rajdhahi Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk).An HC bench comprising Justice Mohammad Nizamul Huq and Justice Mohammad Jahangir Hossain passed the order after hearing a bail petition filed by Sohel Rana, also a local Jubo League leader of Savar.
Rana Plaza, a multi-storey building at Savar on the outskirts of the capital, came down crashing on April 24 last year, killing over 1,100 people.
Rajuk filed a case with Savar Model Police Station against Sohel Rana for violating the Bangladesh National Building Code on the day.
Police also filed a case accusing six people, including Sohel Rana, on April 25 on murder charge.
Police arrested Sohel Rana on April 28, 2013.
Mohammad Nazmul Huda stood for Sohel Rana while Deputy Attorney General Amit Talukdar represented the state. – UNB
