Hefajat calls rally at Shapla Chattar Dec 24

Hefajat-e-Islami Bangladesh on Sunday announced to hold its postponed grand rally at the capital’s Shapla Chattar on December 24.   Besides, the Islamist group announced month-long programmes to be held before the grand rally.   Hefajat secretary general Junaid Babunagari made the announcement at a press briefing at Al-Jamiatul Alia Darul Ulum Moinul Islam Madrasah at Hathazari in Chittagong.   He said they will hold rally in Chandpur on November 28, Tangail on November 30, Dianjpur on December 9, Chittagong on December 12-13, and in 12 districts — Sylhet, Khulna, Rajshahi, Habiganj, Noakhali, Feni, Comilla, Gazipur, Munshiganj, Manikganj, Bogra and Mymensingh — on December 20.   Besides, Hefajat will stage demonstrations in all upazila headquarters across the country protesting attempts of “atheists”.

Earlier, Babunagari said they announced the programmes to realise their various demands, including resistance evil-attempts of the atheist bloggers, compensation for the Hefajat activists injured on May 5, police crackdown in the capital’s Motijheel and implementation of their 13-point demand.   Earlier on November 10, Hefajat postponed its Shapla Chattar rally scheduled for November 15 as it coincided with the holy Ashura and the three-day ‘Jor‘ Ijtema, a preparatory event of the two-phase Biswa Ijtema.   Hefajat leaders Mawlana Shamsul Islam, Hafez Tajul Islam, Anas Madani and Azizul Haque Islamabadi were, among others, present. – UNB
