SQ Chy lawyer remanded on judgment leakage charge

A court of Dhaka on Sunday placed war crimes convict Salauddin Quader Chowdhuty’s lawyer Barrister AFM Fakhrul Islam on a four-day remand in a case filed under the Information and Communication Technology Act.Magistrate Md Emdadul Haque of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed the order after hearing on a seven-day remand plea of the prosecution.
Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) Police arrested Fakhrul on Wednesday at his Kakrail chamber in the capital in connection with the leakage of draft verdict of International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) against war criminal Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, a BNP MP.
On Thursday, Inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of Police MdShahjahan and also the Investigation Office of the case, filed the remand petition against Fakhrul.
Barrister Aminul Haque, Advocates Sanaullah Mia, Masud Ahmed Talukder, and Nazrul Islam Shamim among others stood against the remand plea.
DB Police arrested two ICT employees in this connection on October 4 and they were placed on remand. They made confessional statements admitting their involvement in the leakage on October 10 under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
The ICT-1 awarded death sentence to BNP lawmaker SQ Chowdhuy for his involvement in crimes against humanity during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971, on October 1. – Court Correspondent
