Hiron calls for unity to win next polls

Corporation Mayor Shawkat Hossain Hiron addressing the first post-BCC
election rally on Monday afternoon said defeat of AL candidates in
city polls will lead to less interest in local development works.
Those who are violating the nomination of the party like Jahangir of
Gazipur and Mamun of Barisal, should the punished by ousting from the
organization, he said.
“We may have faults. But after the change of scenario from a district
town to divisional metropolitan city by sincerely working hard in last
47 months and which was unprecedented in the last 42 years. I have
been defeated in election by the false propaganda of the BNP-Jamaat,
not from any other issues,” Hiron said.
“I have performed Hajj with family members. I am living on legal
income, extended all sorts of assistances to mosques, madras,
religious institutions, but I have fallen victim of munafeqi,” he
added.
Hiron calling to unite AL and its front organizations said, “These
defeats should make us united to win in next general election.”
Barisal district and city units of ruling Awami League protested
conspiracies and false propaganda of BNP-Jamaat led opponents on
Monday afternoon blocking city main road holding rally and called to
foil their blueprint by uniting to win the next general election.
The programme was held in front of Ashwini Kumar Hall from 4:00 pm to
6:45 pm on city main road Sadar Road creating traffic jams. Among
others Advocate Talukdar Md. Yunus, district AL secretary and
lawmaker, Syed Anis, former district publicity secretary, Advocate
Afzalul Karim, city AL secretary, Mahbub Uddin BIrbikram, veteran
freedom fighter, Advocate KBS Ahmed Kabir, chief election agent of
14-party alliance in recently conducted BCC election, Nizamul Islam
Nizam, city Jubo League convener, Kohinur Begum, BCC councilor-elect
and Mohila Awami League leader and other leaders of AL and front
organizations addressed the rally. -Our Correspondent
