B Chy again barred from seeing Khaleda, calls for dialogue

President of Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh Prof Dr Badruddoza Chowdhury yesterday called upon the government to hold dialogue with the all opposition parties to resolve the current political impasse.
He made the call at a press statement issued on Thursday while the BNP-led 20-party alliance continues it blockade programme across the country for an indefinite period. The former President demanded the immediate release of BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir from jail.
“I want remind the government of its responsibility that it should hold talks across the table with the opposition since there is only way to overcome the present political stalemate,” he said adding, “It will be excellent for the country, government and opposition if the government holds the dialogue soon.”
Referring to the arrest of Mirza Fakhrul for a number of times, he said it is illogical to take him on remand after detaining him repeatedly. “I think, he should be released immediately,” he added.
Earlier, President of Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) Prof AQM Badrudozza Chowdhury again failed to meet BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at her office on Thursday due to police barricade.
The former President went to see the BNP chief as a physician by his Pajero jeep around 7:25pm. However, he could not reach the main gate of the office as police blocked the road by a water cannon vehicle about 100 yards off the office.
Finding the road blocked, B Chowhdury called the policemen deployed there to remove the water cannon to make way for his vehicle, but the law enforcers did not respond to his call.
Apparently aggrieved at the policemen’s behaviour, the BDB chief shouted saying, “What kind of incivility is this? There’s a limit to incivility. This vehicle has to be removed. I’m giving one minute’s time. If it’s not removed by one minute, I’ll go away.”
But the policemen still remained unmoved. Later, the former President went back from there.
Talking to reporters while leaving, B Chowdhury said, “I’m a former President. I came here on Sunday too but they did the same as they did today.”
He continued, “I’m a senior citizen and a physician. I came here today as a physician.”
Earlier on Sunday, Prof Badrudozza Chowdhury was barred from meeting besieged BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
The BDB chief went to Khaleda’s Gulshan office around 12 noon to meet the former Prime Minister on Sunday.
As his motorcade came close to the office, law enforcers deployed around it intercepted those.
The law enforcers did not remove the road barricade even after the BDB chief identified himself as the country’s former President. – Staff Reporter
