HSC examinee killed in Sirajganj clash

An HSC examinee was killed and 25 people were injured in a clash between the residents of two areas under Sirajganj municipality on Sunday evening. The deceased, Ali Raj, 18, was a candidate of the ongoing Higher Secondary Certificate examination from Sirajganj Govt College and son of Manzu Sheikh of Kutiabari area. Habibul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sirajganj Sadar Police Station, said an altercation erupted between some youths of Kutiabari and Kata Wapda areas at a tea stall in Kata Wapda around 7:30pm. At one stage, they engaged in a clash. Other residents of the two areas soon joined the youths when they attacked each other. Around 10 gunshots were traded during the clash when Ali Raj was killed in the firing by rivals and 25 people sustained injuries, including three with bullets. On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control around 8:15pm by lobbing teargas canisters. The injured were admitted to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital and other clinics. Of them, the condition of Ashraf, 18, son of Zulmat Ali, was stated to be critical. Meanwhile, residents of Kutiabari brought out a procession with the body of Ali Raj from where they attacked the local police station around 9pm. – UNB
