The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Thursday took the charges against two Kishoreganj war crimes suspects – Syed Mohammad Hossain and Muhammad Moslem Pradhan – into cognizance for their alleged involvement in crimes against humanity committed during the War of Liberation in 1971.
It also fixed February 15 for hearing on the charges.
The three-member ICT headed by Justice Md Anwarul Haque came up with the order after Prosecutor Tureen Afroz placed brief submission on charges.The prosecution on December 3 pressed six charges against the duo for committing crimes against humanity at different places under Nikli in Kishoreganj during the Liberation War in 1971.
The charges include killing a prisoner of war, killings, abduction, torture in confinement, arson attack, and looting during the liberation war.
Moslem Pradhan was on the dock while Syed Md Hossain is still in hiding. Hossain was left for Malaysia on May 21 last year and the investigations began on November 13, according to the prosecution.
Interpol has already issued a red notice and talked to Malaysian police for bringing him back, prosecution said.
Moslem, of Kamarhati village in Nikli upazila, was arrested on July 8 this year after the tribunal issued an arrest warrant against the duo.
Syed Mohammad was originally from Machihata village (Pir Bari) in Brahmanbaria sadar upazila but had been living with his family in Kishoreganj sadar upazila since 1936 as his father worked there, according to the war crimes investigation agency. – Staff Reporter
