IFC NY finalises plan for human chain before UN on Feb 25

The International Farakka Committee (IFC), New York at an opinion exchange meeting at Jackson Heights on Sunday finalised the preparations to make its 25-February programme of Human Chain and demonstration in front of the United Nations to protest the diversion of all common rivers upstream of Bangladesh by India, according to a message received in Dhaka.
Presided over by Atiqur Rahman Salu the meeting formed a sub-committee to make the 25-February demonstration programme a success. Zakir Hawladar and Nazmul Alam Shyamol are the convener and the member-secretary of the sub-committee while Abul M Azad, Mirza Azam and MA Baten are its members.The meeting in a resolution urged the government to immediately raise the issue of securing the right of Bangladesh to water of common rivers at the sixth committee of the United Nations. It urged all Bangladeshis irrespective of party affiliations to join the demonstration.
The meeting, conducted by Ataur Rahman Ata, organising secretary of IFC New York, decided that those who will join the human chain demonstraton would be able to come with their own organisarional banners.
The function was addressed by Abul M Azad, Taser Mahmud, Gias Ahmed, Advocate Mujibur Rahman, Zainal Abedin, Azaharul Milon, Sabbir Ahmed Laskar, Hazrat Ali, Engr Lutfur Rahman and Hakikul Islam Khokan among others, the message said.
