Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque on Saturday stressed the need for waging a social movement against militancy.“All will have to work from their respective positions to create social awareness against militancy,” the police chief said while addressing a seminar titled ‘Militancy and Terrorism Eradication-Role of media and Community Police’ marking the 14th anniversary of ‘Dainik Amar Kagoj’ at the Jatiya Press Club.Terming Islam the religion of peace, he said it does not believe in killing people.
“The young generation is getting derailed as they are being given partial explanation of Islam,” the IGP said.He urged the Alem community to stand against militancy highlighting the proper interpretation of Islam among people.The IGP also urged parents to monitor the activities of their children and help them flourish their talents. “Police are performing their duties with their all-out efforts and dedication. We’ll have to resist terrorism and militancy by forging a social movement,” the IGP added.He said the people of the country do not want militancy and terrorism as they want peaceful life. “Militant attack on Gulshan Holy Artisan Bakery created anti-militancy awareness among people,” the IGP said.Chaired by president of editorial board of the Dainik Amar Kagoj Hazi Alauddin, the seminar was addressed, among others, by Principal Information Officer (PIO) of Press Information Department AKM Shamim Chowdhury, Khatib of Tongi Ershad Nagar central Jam-e-masjid Mufti Maulana Kamal Uddin, acting editor of Amar Kagoj Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan Rana, ICT secretary Shyam Sunder Sikder, and president of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul.
