Jaamat man off in favour of BNP candidate in Gazipur

Dhaka, April 23 – An Independent mayoral candidate who submitted his nomination paper as Mohanagar Unnayan Parishad’s candidate, withdrew his candidature from upcoming Gazipur city corporation election. He withdrew his candidacy by a written application to Returning Officer of Gazipur city corporation election at Bangataz auditorium on Sunday morning. Later, he along with party leaders and supporters went to BNP nominated mayoral candidate Hasan Uddin Sarker’s residence at Tongi and officially supported him in this election. At that time, he said, Jamaat-e-Islami is party that always take part in election. But, the Jamaat’s registration has been kept pending through the court so that we can not participate in the polls.
As a result, we have decided to participate in this election in the name of Gazipur City Development Council (Gazipur Mohanagar Unnayan Parishad). He said, there is no democracy in the country at present. All the structures of the state have been destroyed. In this moment, there is no way except unity. So we decided to support BNP nominated mayoral candidate Hasan Uddin Sarker on the directions of the party’s high command as we can contest in this election unitedly under 20 party alliance.
