Jamaat activist killed as police chase procession at Mirpur

A Jamaat-e-Islami activist died when police chased a procession of Jamaat and Shibir activists on the Kalsi Road at Dhaka’s Mirpur on Sunday morning.
A policeman was injured in a bomb explosion during the clash around 8:30am at on Kalshi road under Pallabi thana.Police said Jamaat activist, Belal Hossain, 37, was hit by a vehicle when he was trying to run away during a police chase with gun-shots. He died in a hospital.
Jamaat activists vandalised several vehicles during the clashes. Mirpur police Deputy Commissioner Imtiaz Ahmed said Jamaat and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir, took out a procession at Kalshi area.
“They hurled handmade bombs at a Pallabi police patrol near the 22-storey building injuring a cop,” he said. “Police fired several rounds in air to control the situation.”
Belal was injured after being hit by a vehicle when he was trying to evade a police chase, police official Imtiaz said. Pallabi Police Station SI Abul Hossain took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
