Jamaat calls countrywide ‘doa’ for its leaders Friday

Jamaat-e-Islami yesterday announced countrywide “doa” programme on Friday seeking release of its detained leaders.
Jamaat acting ameer Makbul Ahmed yesterday in a statement condemned the death sentence of party nayebe ameer Maualna Abdus Sobhan.
“Sobhan was deprived of justice and he will file an appeal before the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court,” he said.The Jamaat leader asked party leaders and activists to observe the programme with patience and peacefully against what he said the conspiracy to eliminate the party’s leadership.
Shibir activist injured in police firing
Meanwhile, an activist of Islami Chhatra Shibir sustained bullet wound during a clash with police in the city’s Mirpur area on Wednesday after Jamaat-Shibir men brought out a procession protesting the death sentence against Jamaat senior leader Maulana Abdus Sobhan by ICT-2.
The victim was identified as Tinu Biswas. Ziauzzaman, officer-in-charge of Pallabi Police Station, said a group
of Jamaat-Shibir men brought out a procession at Mirpur-11 kitchen market area at noon in protest against the ICT-2 verdict.
When police tried to disperse them, a chase and counter chase took place between the Jamaat-Shibir activists and the law enforcers, triggering a clash.
At one stage, the Jamaat-Shibir men blasted several crude bombs targeting the law enforcers, forcing them to open fire on them that left Tinu injured.
He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital after arrest. Tinu however told reporters that police caught him after a chase and shot him. – News Desk
