Dhaka – Jamaat-e-Islami has called a 24-hour countrywide hartal for Sunday protesting the Supreme Court order upholding its ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami’s death penalty.In a jointly statement, Jamaat acting ameer Makbul Ahmad and acting secretary general Dr Shafiqur Rahman announced the strike soon after the Supreme Court order on Thursday.The party also announced to hold a Doa Mahfil for Nizami on Friday and a peaceful programme for Saturday protesting the SC verdict.Earlier, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court rejected death-row war crimes convict Nizami’s review petition against its previous verdict in favour of his death penalty that was earlier awarded by the International Crimes Tribunal.
