Jessore schoolboy beaten ‘by headmaster’ hospitalized

Benapole, Feb 6 – A student of Sharsha Pilot Model Secondary School was reportedly beaten up by the headmaster of the school for failing to attend the school with uniform in Sharsha Upazila of Jashore district on Tuesday. Local people said Mehedi Hasan Sagar, 15, a class IX student of the school and son of Mahinur Rahman, a brick kiln worker of Kagojpukur village used to go to his school without wearing school uniform as his poor family was unable to buy a uniform for him.
Noticing Mehedi’s attending classes without uniform, the school authority asked him to make his uniform within seven days.
Mahinur, the only earning member of the family, however, managed to buy a shirt for his son but failed to make a pant.
On Tuesday, when Mehedi went to school without wearing full uniform, headmaster of the school Shahidul Islam called him at this office where he beat Mehedi up mercilessly, leaving him injured.
Later, he was admitted to Sharsha Upazila Health Complex.
Pulok Kumar Mandal, Sharsha Upazila Nirbahi Officer, said a three-member committee, headed by Secondary Education Officer Hasan Hafizur Rahman, was formed to look into the incident.
