Police on Tuesday arrested a local leader of Jubo League from Shahi
Eidgah area on charge of his involvement in a robbery incident at a
jewellery market in the city’s Zinda Bazar.
The arrestee was identified as Manik Mia, 40, organising secretary of
the city ward no 19 unit of Jubo League and son of late Sona Mia of
the Pirerbazar on outskirts of the city.
Officer-in-charge of Sylhet Kotwali Police Station Ahmed Nasir Uddin
said a team of police conducted a drive in the area at about 3.00pm
and arrested Manik after confirming his (Manik’s) involvement in the
robbery incident.
But Manik’s family members, denying his involvement in the incident,
said that police were trying to create another drama of ‘Judge Mia.’
Meanwhile, four people—Kabir alias Heroin Kabir, Nahid, Jalil and Umar
Al—whom police earlier arrested from different places of the city on
charge of the robbery, were brought in custody in Kotwali Police
Station for interrogation on Thursday noon after a court placed them
on a two-day remand.
A group of armed robbers committed a robbery at ‘Neher Market’ in the
city’s Zindabazar last Wednesday night.
They looted huge gold ornaments from three jewellry shops of the
market, including 600 talas of gold from ‘Al Bara Jewellry’. -UNB,
