JMB’s Mizan sentenced to 20 years in prison

A Dhaka court on Sunday sentenced fugitive, Jama’at-ul Mujahideen Bangladesh JMB) militant Jahidul Islam Sumon alias Boma Mizan to 20 years’ in prison while his life Halima Begum was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment in a case filed under the Explosive Substances Act.
Judge AHM Habibur Rahman of the Fourth Additional Metropolitan Sessions’ Judge Court AHM Habibur Rahman passed the order in presence of Halima Begum.Halima Begum was brought to the dock from the jail to pronounce the verdict. However, Boma Mizan had been on the run as he along with two other militants – Rakib and Salahuddin – was snatched from a police van in Trishal upazila of Mymensingh killing a constable while they were being taken to a Mymensingh court from Kashimpur jail on February 23 this year.
The case statement says, on a tip-off, a team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)
recovered huge grenades, arms, ammunition and bomb-making materials from the house of Boma Mizan in the city’s Mirpur area on May 15, 2009.
Late the elite force filed a case in this regard and Police submitted the charge sheet against the accused on June 15, 2009 while the court framed charges against the duo on January 28, 2010.
Earlier, on June 3, 2012, another court sentenced Boma Mizan and his wife Halima Begum to 37 years in prison in a case filed for possessing arms.
Besides, 14 more cases are still pending against them with various courts. – Court Correspondent
