Journalist admits involvement in Satkhira operation news

The Daily Inqulab journalist Atiqur Rahman on Wednesday made confessional statement admitting his involvement in a case filed in connection with the publication of a report titled ‘Indian Forces Cooperation in the operation of Satkhira’.Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court Magistrate Harun-or-Rashed recorded the confessional statement of the Daily Inqulab Diplomatic reporter Atique’s confessional statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
Besides, another Magistrate Maruf Hossain heard the bail petition of Atique and sent him to the jail rejecting his bail pleas. Atique’s lawyer Abdullah Mansur Ripon rejected the bail pleas.
On January 17, the CMM Court sent the Daily Inquilab News Editor Rabiullah Rabi and Deputy Chief Reporter Rafique Mohammad to jail in the case filed under the Information and Communication Technology Act.
On January 16 at night, police seized the office and press of the Daily Inqulab and locked both under the act. During the raid police arrested the three journalists and seized two CPU, two monitors, one UPS, a tracing paper and draft copies of news from the News Room of the daily. Moreover, Senior Reporter Afzal Bari was detailed and later he was released.
Additional Police Commissioner Rakibuddin headed the raid, conducted on the Inqilab Bhaban at about 8 pm on the day. During the at the Inqilab office of RK Mission Road of Tikatali in the capital none was allowed to enter into and came from the office.
Two white cars of the Detective Branch of Police were kept outside the office of the daily. Police took position in a floor of the building and conducted their inquiry through computer.
On the same day city’s Wari Police Station Sub-Inspector Zahangir Alam filed the case under the Information and Technology Act.   – Court Correspondent
