Journalist municipal councilor Oliar shot dead in Nowapara

Assailants shot dead Mollah Oliar Rahman, 59, Nawapara bureau chief; Khulna based Daily Janmabhumi, councilor, ward number 7, joint secretary, Abhaynagar upazila Awami League and also president, a co-ordination committee of different labour organization at around 7am on Sunday.
Panic gripped the industrial area after the killing. Agitated people blocked Jessore- Khulna Highway and internal roads of the town burning tyres. Educational institutes were shuttered soon after hearing the news of killing. The blockade continued till filing the report at 1pm. Taking to New Nation, Abdul Malek, former Abhaynagar upazila chairman and also vice president, Abhaynagar upazila unit Awami League who was with the slain leader, told New Nation that Mollah Oliar was shot from point blank range while they were on morning walk near a mosque at Professorpara under Nawpara industrial town at around 7am. But he was unhurt. He, however, could not be able to say anything as he became wordless at one stage. Enamul Haque Babul, general secretary, Abhaynagar upazila unit Awami League told that he did not know details of the killing as he was in Dhaka. Sairuddin Ahmed, officer in-charge, Kotwali police station told that the Awami League leader was shot dead at Professorpara area in the morning. Declaration of the death came from Khulna Medical College Hospital. Earlier, he was first taken to Abhaynagar upazila health complex and then shifted to Khulna Medical College Hospital from where the doctor declared him dead. Physicians said the victim received two bullets in the chest. No case was filed immediately in this connecting. Police picked up one for quizzing. # Jessore Correspondent
