Jatiya Party secretary general ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader on Friday emphasised the need for holding a fresh parliamentary election based on consensus.
“Another national election is needed based on consensus so that all political parties can take part in it,” he made this comment while talking to reporters after a discussion meeting at Jatiya Party chairman’s Banani office to mark the International Mother Language Day.
The comment came only one and half month after January 5 general election, which was boycotted by BNP, the main political rival of the ruling Awami League. The Jatiya Party leader claimed that there is dispute between party chairman HM Ershad and his wife and opposition leader Begum Rawshan Ershad.
“We have no division and dispute among us. Though there is little bit differences among us, we are united for the greater national interests,” he said.
Hawlader said they are united under the leadership of Ershad. The party chairman started touring different districts as part of making party united and stronger, he added.
He said the party would be reorganized through holding party council within three months.
Earlier, addressing the discussion meeting, the Jatiya Party leader said Jatiya Party came under many attacks in the past.
“The party was stabbed on its back. It was mangled in the last 23 years,” he added.
Presided over by President of Dhaka city (north) unit SM Faisal Chisti, the meeting was also addressed, among others, by joint secretary general Nurul Islam Nuru, Rezaul Aslam Bhuiyan and Mir Abdus Sabur. – Staff Reporter
