Police have arrested an Islami Chhatra Shibir activist, accused in four cases including one of arson at a polling centre in Jessore, Monirampur.
Bhulu Hossain, 28, was caught with a firearm and few rounds of bullets at Joypur village of Dhukuria Union on Friday afternoon.“Police raided a mango orchard at 11am after being tipped off about a secret Shibir meeting there,” said Monirampur Police OC Mizanur Rahman.
He said Bhulu and his accomplices fired at the police. They also threw firebombs and stones.
“Police fired back at them, and Bhulu was injured. The others managed to flee leaving Bhulu behind along with a pistol and some bullets,” Rahaman said.
He was admitted to the Jessore Medical College and Hospital with bullet wounds on both legs.
The Shibir activist has four cases pending against him with the Monirampur Police for setting fire to a polling station during the Jan 5 election, vandalism and torching of houses. – bdnews24.com
