JP (Zafar) to join Dec 29 rally, calls Ershad’s arrest strange

Jatiya Party leader Kazi Zafar Ahmed has announced that Jaitya Party (Kazi Zafar) would join the Dec 29 rally called by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
He termed the matters involving his arrest are strange. He is saying that he is detained. But he is playing golf, running party affairs and promoting and expelling anyone he wishes,” he said on Wednesday. Zafar said the whole matter was ‘dubious’.He was addressing a press conference at Gulshan after a Presidium meeting of the party faction leads. He described the former military dictator as the ‘king of puppet show’. Without naming Ershad, he said: “There is a king of puppet show in our country. He makes contradictory statements and takes conflicting stances at different times. He is the former Chairman of our party and ex-President of the country.”
“We began our journey by revolting against the whims of this puppet-show king.” Zafar formed a new faction of the Jatiya Party after being expelled it following differences with Ershad over the party taking part in the upcoming national elections. He claims the faction he leads to be the main Jatiya Party.
The veteran leader, who was a Prime Minister during the Ershad regime, praised Khaleda’s speech to the nation on Tuesday.
He said the speech she delivered was ‘historic and timely’ “She made the speech with the wisdom of a statesman. We’re at the crossroads of the history. What’s happening now is the labour pain of new creation.”
Zafar supported Khaleda’s ‘March for democracy’ programme called for Dec 29, terming it ‘right and timely’.
“No election, depriving the people of their rights to vote and keeping most of the political parties off the race, will be allowed in Bangladesh.”
He said the Jatiya Party faction led by him would support the agitation programmes of the BNP-led 18-Party Alliance.
