Kamran show-caused: Polls symbols allocated

Awami League-backed mayoral candidate of the upcoming Sylhet City
Corporation (SCC) election Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran has been served a
show cause notice for ‘violating’ electoral code of conduct.
SM Ezharul Haque, returning officer for the SCC polls, on Sunday
issued the notice to Kamran asking him to give a reply about the
allegations brought against him in it by today (Monday).
Ezharul accused Kamran of carrying out publicity of the polls while
attending as the chief guest a function organised at Sylhet auditorium
by the Sylhet City Corporation authorities in celebration of the birth
anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
Mentionable, Kamran, also immediate past mayor of SCC, while in office
had earlier reportedly donated Tk50,000 for the function.
As per the election schedule, the election symbols will be allotted to
the contenders on Tuesday while the election to the city corporation
will be held on June 15.
The returning officer on Monday distributed election symbols among
three candidates for the mayoral post in the Sylhet City Corporation
election.
SM Ezharul Haque, returning officer for the SCC polls, distributed the
symbols among the candidates around 11.00am.
Ruling Awami League-led 14-party alliance-backed candidate Badaruddin
Ahmed Kamran has been given ‘Pineapple’, BNP-led 18-party
alliance-supported Ariful Haque Chowdhury has been given ‘Television’
while independent candidate Salahuddin Rimon got ‘Lock and Key’ as
their election symbols.
As per the polls schedule, the election to the city corporation will
