Khaleda to appear in court on Jan 5

Dhaka-The Special Judge Court-3 of Dhaka on Thursday deferred recording BNP Chief Khalada Zia’s statement on self-defence to January 5 after hearing her on time petition submitted by her lawyer in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case.Judge Abu Ahmed Jamadar of the court passed the order. Earlier on the day, Begum Khaleda Zia went to the court at about 11:30 am. On December 15, the court fixed December 22 as the next date for hearing the self defence statement of Khaleda Zia.
On August 8, 2011, the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the Zia Charitable Trust graft case with Tejgaon Police Station accusing four people, including Khaleda Zia, of abuse of power in raising funds for the trust from unknown sources.
Besides, the ACC filed another graft case- the Zia Orphanage Trust case on July 3, 2008 with Ramna Model Police Station accusing Khaleda Zia, her eldest son Tareque Rahman, now living in the UK after securing bail, and four others for misappropriating over Tk 21.0 million (Tk 2.10 crore) that came as grants from a foreign bank for orphans. -Special Correspondent
