Khaleda’s meeting with 20-party leaders begins

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia sat in a meeting with top leaders of the 20-party alliance tonight (Wednesday night) to discuss the country’s latest situation and work out its next course of action. The meeting began around 8:30 pm at BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office with Khaleda in the chair. BNP sources said issues like the country’s latest sociopolitical situation and law and order and recent terror attacks at Guslhan café and Sholakia may come up for discussion at the meeting. Khaleda, also the chief of the BNP-led 20-party, will work out the next course of actions and strategies of the alliance under the current circumstances of the country. She will also instruct the alliance leaders to work for uniting people from all walks of life to resist militancy and extremism, the BNP leader said. Dhaka, UNB News Agency Reported.

After the alliance meeting, Khaleda Zia will hold another meeting with her party’s standing committee members. She will also sit in a meeting with intellectuals, journalists and eminent citizens on Thursday night at the same venue to take suggestions as to how the party should work for forging a national unity to face the growing extremism problem.Earlier on July 3, Khaleda Zia held a meeting with her party’s standing committee members two days after the country’s deadliest terrorist attack at a restaurant in upscale Gulshan. After the meeting, she at a press conference called upon all, irrespective of party and opinion, to forge unity against terrorism to eliminate militancy from the country.

Twenty-two people, including nine Italians, seven Japanese, one Indian national and two police officials, were killed as terrorists attacked Holey Artisan Bakery at the city’s Gulshan diplomatic zone on July 1.On July 7, terrorists also attacked a police check-post near Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj only minutes before the Eid prayers, killing two policemen and a housewife. Law enforcers also gunned down one of the attackers.
