‘Khude Gaanraj’ Jhuma Akhter in police custody.

The first runner-up of the 2008 version of ‘Meridian Channel I Khude Gaanraj’ has been staying at the Victim Support Center of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) near Tejgaon Police Station premises for the last two days.Her mother Jesmin Begum filed an abduction case in a Narsinghdi court on Aug 4 after she had gone missing.
She was handed over to Narsinghdi police on Wednesday. Jesmin was present there.
DMP Deputy Commissioner (Victim Support Center) Shamima Begum told jurnaliksts Jhuma filed a General Diary on Monday with Industrial Police seeking security.
The police official said Jhuma decided to leave her house following a ‘misunderstanding’ with her mother.
On the other hand, her mother in the case alleged Mohammad Israfil, an Ashulia resident, had abducted her ‘minor’ daughter on Jul 23 from in front of Jailkhana intersection in Narsighdi.
Jesmin had also said Israfil later ‘married’ her 14-year old daughter.
Narsinghdi Sadar Model Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Badrul Alam acknowledged receiving Jhuma in the center. “She will be presented before the court (Thursday),” he said.
Jhuma, a nine-grader from Dhaka’s Cambrian School and College, used to dwell with her mother in Basundhara residential area.
Jesmin in the case had also alleged Israfil had threatened her that he would kill Jhuma for “excesses over the matter.”
The case was filed with the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal. – bdnews24.com
