Major Hafiz sent to jail after two-day remand

A Dhaka court on Thursday sent BNP Vice-Chairman Major (retired) M Hafizuddin Ahmed to jail and fixed January 9 to hear remand prayers in two other cases.Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court Magistrate Md Harun-or-Rashid passed the orders after BNP leader Hafiz was produced to his court on completion of two days’ remand in a case filed for a policeman’s death in bus arson at Bangla Motor in the capital.
Police sought more 20 days’ remand to quiz Hafiz in the two separate cases filed in connection with attempt to murder and arson.
The BNP leader was arrested on December 29, at night, while he was going out from the National Press Club after announcing his part’s next course of action. – Court Correspondent
