Man gets life term for killing boy

A court here on Tuesday sentenced a man to life term imprisonment for
killing a minor boy.
The convict was identified as Alam Hossain, 32, son of Asgor Ali,
resident of Katagari village in Tarash upazila.
Judge Omme Kulsum of the Additional District and Sessions Judge’s
Court-1 handed down the judgment.
The court also fined Alam, in absentia,
Tk5,000, in default of which he will have to suffer jail for one month more.
According to the prosecution, on May 25, 2000, miscreants kidnapped
Kamal, 7, son of Ramjan Ali of the village while he was asleep along
with his parents.
The next day, locals spotted Kamal’s body floating in the Gumti River
and informed police.
Later, his father filed a murder case with Tarash Police Station
against some unidentified miscreants and police detained Alam along
with three others on suspicion and subsequently submitted charge sheet
against only the convict.
After examining sufficient witnesses and evidence, the court
pronounced the verdict in absence of Alam who is on the run for long
after being freed on bail.
