Man made reasons behind her Biman flight troubles, says PM

Dhaka – Referring to the delay in the landing of a Biman flight carrying her at Dhaka airport several months back and recent emergency landing of another flight carrying her in Turkmenistan, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday said there was nothing technical but man-made problem. She made the remarks during her 36-minute winding-up speech at the 13th session of 10th Parliament in the evening.
Citing Boeing’s reply to a query, the Leader of the House said they have around 6,000 aircraft flying across the globe and there was no such incident (screw loose) as it happened in the Hungary-bound PM’s flight. “The investigation is going on and I can’t say anything more right now,” he said.
She also said she had never cared about her own life no matter attempts are made time and again to kill her like making the Biman flight loose or keeping debris on the airport runway or launching grenade attack or direct firing.
Mentioning that the Election Commission will be constituted as per the decision of the President following dialogue with political parties, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told Parliament on Thursday that her party will accept his decision. “We’ll surely accept whatever decision the President takes,” she said.
Sheikh Hasina, also the Awami League president, said many are now saying many things and coming up with various suggestions in this regard. “But, the President has already taken initiatives in this regard and BNP also sent their suggestions to Bangabhaban. The President will now hold talks in this regard.”
She reiterated that her government always wants to hold the election in a free, fair and neutral manner as it was the Awami League and she herself who had fought for establishing the rights of people for food and voting and many leaders and workers of Awami League and its associate bodies had laid down their lives for this cause.
The Prime Minister also said, “We want that a fair democratic process prevails in the country which will also expedite the economic development.”
Mentioning that BNP’s decision not to join the January-5 polls was a wrong one, she said they had to pay for it.
Describing BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia as the order giver of arson attacks and vandalism unleashed before the election that killed many people, Hasina said she must apologise to the nation for this. “Cases have already been filed against those who carried out such crimes. I want the cases to be disposed of speedily and the criminals get punishment.”
She also reiterated that there would be no place of killers and terrorists on Bangladesh soil, no matter who they are. “We’ll surely take action against them.”
Referring to the Rohingya issue as mentioned by Opposition Leader Raushon Ershad, the Prime Minister said in 1991, BNP had opened the floodgate for Rohingyas and currently the number of registered Rohingyas in the country is 30,000, while the unregistered Myanmar nationals amount to several lakh. “Having so many refugees in a small country like Bangladesh is a big burden.”
She said the government has already asked the Myanmar government through its ambassador in Dhaka to take steps to maintain peace in their country and ensure so that Rohingyas do not enter Bangladesh. “However, many Rohingyas are now entering Bangladesh and they’re being provided with food and shelter on humanitarian grounds,” she said, regretting the global community’s silence over the issue.
Hasina said she has asked the law enforcement agencies to ensure so that those had killed the Myanmar border guards and attacked their army could not enter Bangladesh.
Referring to the delay in the landing of a Biman flight carrying her at Shahjalal International Airport several months back and recent emergency landing of another flight carrying her in Turkmenistan, the Prime Minister said there is no doubt that this was not technical glitch but a manmade one.
She also mentioned that the Boeing company replied that they have around 6,000 aircraft flying across the globe and there was no such incident (screw loose) as it happened in the Hungary-bound PM’s flight. “The investigation is going on and I can’t say anything more right now,” he said. – UNB
