Man to die for killing ex-wife in Rajshahi

Rajshahi – A tribunal here on Wednesday sentenced a man to death for killing his ex-wife and three others to life term imprisonment in the murder case in Bogra district.The condemned convict is Sohel Ibne Karim, 35, son of Abdul Karim of Adamdighi upazila of Bogra district. He was tried in absentia and fined Tk 50,000.The lifers are-Sakil Sarkar, 28, son of Muniruzzaman Sarker of Sadar upazila, Sengupta Ghosh, 35, son of Santosh Chandra Ghosh in Adamdighi upazila and Ahad Ali, 40, son of Khabar Ali of Dupchanchia upazila of Bogra district. Of them, Ahad Ali was tried in absentia.The tribunal also fined them Tk 50,000 each, in default, to suffer,one year more rigorous imprisonment.According to the prosecution, Sohel used to torture Shirin Akter, 23, daughter of Azizur Rahman of Adamdighi upazila, for dowry and Shirin returned to her parent’s house following an altercation over the issue and divorced him on August 12, 2012.Angered by the incident, Sohel along with three associates swooped on the house of Shirin and chopped her indiscriminately on December 13, 2012. They also severed the tendons of her legs.After fighting for life for eight months, Shirin succumbed to her injuries at a hospital in Dhaka on August 26, 2013.A case was filed with Adamdighi Police Station.After examining records and witnesses, Judge of the Rajshahi Speedy Trial Tribunal Golam Ahmed Khalilur Rahman handed down the verdict.(UNB)
