Mannan’s manifesto focuses on modern Gazipur city

BNP-led 18-party alliance-supported mayoral candidate in the maiden
Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) election Professor MA Mannan on Tuesday
announced 11-point election manifesto pledging to build Gazipur as a
modern city.
Prof Mannan, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s adviser, unveiled the
manifesto at a function at a community centre in the city.  Making it
clear how he will turn Gazipur into a modern city, Mannan said if
elected, he will form a ‘consultative committee’ comprising
experienced personalities after taking suggestions of people of all
classes.
“Short, mid and long-term plans will be adopted as per the proposals
of the consultative committee. Thus, Gazipur will be transformed into
a modern city through implementing the plans,” Mannan added.
The BNP-blessed mayoral runner promised to work for development of the
city’s education, to ensure better healthcare for all, to free the
city from terrorism and drugs and improve law and order.
He assured of taking steps to ease traffic congestion in the city, to
improve the communication and drainage systems, to resolve
water-logging, to ensure smooth supply of gas, water and power and to
establish an international-standard stadium.
BNP central leaders ASM Hannan Shah, Aman Ullah Aman, Gazipur district
unit BNP president Fazlul Haque Milon and 18-party leaders were
present, among others.
Seven candidates are vying for the post of mayor in the Gazipur City
Corporation which goes to polls on July 6.
On the other hand, 18-party leaders and activists are campaigning for
Prof. MA Mannan day and night. Meanwhile, Gazipur has turned into a
crowded city as many people are coming here on behalf of candidates.
