US Ambassador to Bangladesh Dan W Mozena on Sunday said the
Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) facility was suspended due to
poor working conditions in garments and tragic incidents at Rana Plaza
and Tajreen Garment.
He said this while journalists drew his attention to Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina’s allegation that the US government suspended the
facility due to pressure by leader of the opposition Begum Khaleda
Zia.
Mozena was talking to journalists while he was visiting Ananda
Shipyard Ltd on the bank of Meghna River at Sonargaon in Nayaranganj.
Chairman of the institution Dr Abdullahel Bari, Managing Director
Afroza Bari and other officials of the institution were also present.
During his tour, the US envoy visited different sites of the shipyard.
He visited some projects, which are under construction.
He praised the Ananda Shipyard Ltd for their developed projects and
said that these will play positive role in the economy of the country.
