An upazila level BNP leader and his daughter were killed as unidentified assailants launched bomb attacks on them in Mujibnagar upazila of the district on Thursday evening.The deceased are– Dr Mamidul Rahman Helal, Mujibnagar Upazila BNP Joint Secretary and his daughter Mitu, 18, a BBA fist year student of American University in Dhaka.
Mujibnagar Thana OC Rabiul Hossain told banglanews, “Assailants called Helal out of his house and chopped him severely.”
“Hearing his scream, Mitu rushed to rescue him. At one stage, assailants hurled bomb towards the father and daughter, killing Helal on the spot and injuring his daughter,” he said.
Mitu was rushed to Mujibnagar Upazila Health Complex. Later, she was shifted to Meherpur Sadar Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries around 4am on Friday.
Later, police sent the bodies to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Helal’s wife claimed that Awami League men have killed her husband and daughter.
