Mollah execution: Jamaat calls countrywide hartal Sunday

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami will observe countrywide dawn-to-dusk hartal on Sunday protesting execution of party leader Abdul Quader Mollah.
The shutdown was announced following the execution of Quader Mollah on Thursday night.Acting secretary general of BJI Dr Shafiqur Rahman in a statement on Saturday called upon the party activists to observe the hartal peacefully.
He alleged that Quader Mollah was “killed” trampling all the legal and human rights and ignoring the appeals from national and international quarters. “Conspiracy is being hatched to denude Jamaat of its leadership,” he claimed.
The Jamaat leader also claimed that the government has been carrying out attacks of minority people by its cadres and agents and trying to shift their responsibility to Jamaat-Shibir.
He called upon the government to quit now and stop mass killing, arrest and repression on the opposition and restore the caretaker government system.
The Jamaat leader called his party activists to observe the Victory Day on Monday peacefully by holding discussion meetings.
He urged national and international human rights organizations to raise their voice against what he said mass killing, cruelty and acts against humanity of the government.
