Mortar shell found while uprooting tree stump

Police recovered an unexploded 82 mm mortar shell from Choroymuri village of Ullapara upazila on Sunday noon.Golam Kibria, officer-in-charge of Ullapara Police Station said, on information a team of the law enforcers went to the village and recovered a mortar shell from the house of Amjad Hossain, a wood trader and resident of the village.

The bomb has been preserved in a bucket of sand.Amjad Hossain said he along with others notice the mortar shell while uprooting the stump of a jackfruit tree after its felling on Saturday afternoon.Later, he brought the ‘unfamiliar’ object to his house and informed police.OC Golam Kibria said it can be assumed that the Pakistani Army left the mortar shell during the 1971 Liberation War.The higher authorities has been informed to examine whether the shell is still live or not, he added. -UNB, Sirajganj
