Dhaka- A woman allegedly hanged herself and tried to kill her 28-day-old child after strangling her three-year-old son at Tafalbari village in Sharankhola upazila in Bagerhat on Tuesday.The deceased were identified as Shampa Rani Karmakar, 25, wife of Apu Karmakar, and their son Aranya Karmakar of the village. The couple’s other baby boy luckily survived as the piece of cloth, with which Shampa tried to strangle him, did get entangled around his neck tightly.Police said locals found the door and windows of the house closed since morning.Around noon, they heard the continued crying of the boy and went there. When they peeped through a window, they found Aranya lying on the cot and Shampa hanging from the ceiling.On information, police rushed in, broke open the door and recovered the two bodies in the afternoon, said officer-in-charge of Sharankhola Police Station Md Abdul Jalil.They also rescued the baby from the house, he said, adding that the incident might have happened following a family feud.UNB news agency
