MP Selim granted bail in teacher assault case

Dhaka – The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court of Dhaka yesterday (Tuesday) granted bail to Jatiya Party MP AKM Salim Osman in a case filed for humiliating schoolteacher Shyamol Kanti Bhakta of Narayanganj in public.

CJM Jesmine Ara Begum granted the bail upon a bond of TK 20,000 after hearing on a bail petition filed by Salim’s lawyer Kazi Najibullah Hiru. The court fixed July 4 for hearing of the case. Narayanganj MP Selim surrendered to the court on May 14.

The court ordered Salim to appear before it on 23 May as he submitted a bail order issued by the High Court Division of the Supreme Court on May 8.

In May, last year, Shyamol Kanti, Headmaster of Piyar Sattar Latif High School in Narayanganj, was allegedly humiliated and compelled to squat holding his ears in presence of local Jatiya Party MP Salim Osman.

A video clip of the incident went viral on social media network that sparked off protests across the country.
