‘Mugger’ shot dead by cops in city, 2 held

Dhaka –An alleged mugger was killed in police firing and his two associates were arrested, one with bullet wounds, after a chase by the law enforcers from the city’s Dhanmondi area Tuesday morning, UNB news agency reported.The deceased was identified as Sagor, 27, hailing from Faridpur district.
AB Siddique, officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station, said a team of police while on patrol chased off some criminals in a private car in Purana Paltan area around 5.30am suspecting them to be in a mugging bid.
The gang stopped their car when it reached 3 no road in Dhanmondi area.
Police opened fire on them which left two of the bandits, including Sagor, injured.
Police coughed an alleged mugger named Bashar and took his two injured associates to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared Sagor, who sustained bullet injuries to the chest, dead.
Another injured, Hazrat, received bullet to his leg.
Police recovered a bag and a mobile phone set snatched from a master’s student of Eden College.
The OC also said that Hazrat was out on bail in a mugging case.
