Mugging case filed against 4 DU students; 3 held

Dhaka, Oct 25 – A case has been filed against four Dhaka University (DU) students for their alleged involvement in snatching the valuables from two brothers. One of the victims, Anwar Hossain, a contractor of old Dhaka and organising secretary of ‘Bangabandhu Parishad’ under Dhaka South City Corporation’s ward 49, filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station on Tuesday.
The accused are Md Nafiur Rahman of DU Communication Disorders department, Quamrul Hasan of Footwear Engineering, and Abir Hasan and Md Jorge of Philosophy department. All of them are second-year students.
Officer-in-charge of the police station Abul Hasan said they arrested the former three accused while the other had been on the run.
According to the case statement, the four DU students intercepted Anwar and his brother in front of Ramna Kali Mandir around 10 pm on Monday while they were going towards Holy Family Hospital of Moghbazar from Baitul Mukarram by a motorbike.
They took away Anwar’s smartphone and Tk 17,000 and physically assaulted both of them.
Contacted, DU Proctor AKM Golam Rabbani said, “We’re looking into the matter officially. We’ll surely take academic actions against them if they are found to be guilty.” – UNB
